4.23 Carat Light Fancy Yellow Mine Cut Diamond

June 16, 2014 @ 10:06 pm

If you’re in the market for a large, exceptional stone, you’ve met your match. This diamond weighs 4.23 carats and is an Old Mine Cut (an old cut which predates the modern round brilliant). It’s a light fancy yellow color, and VS1 clarity (for the lay, that means clean as a whistle). It’s set in platinum and flanked by four diamonds weighing a collective .27ct. Total carat weight? A whopping 4 and a half carats. This ring is available by appointment only.

Barbara H. – Custom Citrine Ring in Yellow Gold

June 4, 2014 @ 2:26 pm

Barbara came in at the beginning of the year with a girlfriend, and when she found out that we did custom design, she said, “I’ve always liked the ring my friend’s wearing, could you make me something similar?” Her girlfriend was wearing a large, smoky topaz ring set in sterling silver. Barbara, however, wanted a citrine set in 14K yellow gold.

We got to work. After an initial series of sketches, we sent Barbara some renderings. She said what she did and didn’t like about each set, and we agreed upon the design. A few short weeks after the design was agreed on, the ring came back from the designer.

Barbara carefully examined it from every angle (she designs homes, and obsesses over lines) and finally said, “I know you probably can’t tell, because I’m so analytical, but I am in love with this ring!  I’ve dreamt about this ring for 20 years and can’t tell you how excited I am that I finally have it!”)

The Perfect Art Deco Engagement Ring

May 24, 2014 @ 2:14 pm

We just acquired what is, in our minds, the perfect deco ring. With enough diamond weight to say, “hey, big guy,” while still maintaining a low profile, the perfect filigree work on the shank just sends us. The center stone is a 1 ct H-I color SI1 clarity Transition cut diamond, and the ring itself is made of platinum. The best part? It can be yours.

Elizabeth G. – Custom Pink Tourmaline and Diamond Ring

May 17, 2014 @ 11:43 am

Elizabeth, who got her engagement ring from us in 2005, came in one day and asked, “Do you guys have any loose stones?” We showed her what we had, and having an affinity for vivid colors, she immediately fell in love with a large, oval cut pink tourmaline. She said, “I want this stone. Will you guys make me a mounting for it?”

We’d like to say we immediately went to work, but we didn’t — Elizabeth did. The next week included a lot of e-mails back and forth and culminated with Elizabeth walking in with approximately 30 printouts of rings she found and liked online. We decided on a classic diamond adorned split shank design with split prongs in white gold. She wanted the side of the ring to be carved, giving it an interesting texture.

We documented nearly every step of the journey: wax casting, metal casting, diamond setting, and the finished product.

Art Deco Style Rings in Sterling Silver

May 10, 2014 @ 11:24 am

Whether you’re looking to get engaged on a budget, or just shopping for an anniversary or birthday gift, there’s absolutely no need to break the bank. Here are a few pieces of Art Deco style jewelry, complete with natural semiprecious stones and the filigree that defined the period, in sterling silver.

Sterling silver is a precious white metal that visibly resembles white gold or platinum, but at a fraction of the cost. All of these rings are priced under $200.

May’s Birthstone – The Emerald

May 1, 2014 @ 1:22 pm

So, we pretty much think that emeralds are among the most beautiful things the earth has ever created. Known for their rich and sensual color, these green gems even have a pretty word for their natural “flaws,” jardin, which is the French for “garden,” because the inclusions tend to resemble plant foliage.

We hope you enjoy this choice selection of our fine emerald jewelry.

Custom Pink Sapphire and Diamond Wedding Band

April 26, 2014 @ 11:40 am

Carrie, one of our favorite long time friends and customers, is getting married in May. Her fiancé, Dan, had a lovely engagement ring made in New York, incorporating a family stone. For the wedding band, though, Carrie had her own ideas.

Having given a lot of thought to the idea, she approached us in February of 2014 and gave us a short list of requirements for her wedding band. She wanted it 3mm in width (the same as the band of her engagement ring), she wanted it to be 18K yellow gold, she wanted it to have pale pink stones with diamonds, and she wanted it to look free-flowing and interesting. The last thing she wanted was for her band to look like a “rigid, straight line.”

We met with our designer and, bearing Carrie’s requests in mind, came up with what you see now. A custom made 18K yellow gold band, 3mm in width, with pale pink sapphires and diamonds of various sizes.

Carrie came in at the beginning of April, picked up the ring, and fell in love. We got a message from her a week later that said, “I’m in love with my ring! It’s so pretty. You made all my dreams come trueeeee!”

Hall and Oates would be so proud.

Spotlight on April’s Birthstone: Diamond

April 18, 2014 @ 12:58 pm

Those lucky enough to have been born in April have the diamond for a birthstone. Coming in all shapes, sizes, and colors, diamonds have long been celebrated for their durability. The hardest stone on the Mohs Scale, it’s the perfect rock for an engagement ring because of its longevity.
